i like computer toys, software that i can play with, right now i'm trying to figure out Adobe Premiere Elements. I want to make some snazzy vlogs!
George
I bought a movie I love called Hedwig and the angry inch. It is definitely not for everyone but the music, story, and film tells a story that I can relate to. Figuring out who you really are in this world is not easy. That is the basic story told in a strange way.
Jaimie
my challenge to reward 'me'... even though I should have cleaned the kitchen last night when we got home, the 4 of us watched a movie together and I did NOT get up...usually I can't sit through a whole movie w/o thinking I should be cleaning or laundry
Herlinda
I rewarded myself with going to see gran torino and mall cop last weekend with friends. I also bought two movies Fireproof and Flywheel. As I try to get myself to eat healthier, I must also
work on strengthening myself spiritually with happiness, laughter, sadness(tears of joy), and inspirational messages of hope.
Erin
My gift to myself... I went to a Stampin' Up! Team Meeting in Freeport Long Island. It was an hour + drive and I only thought about a cigarette ONCE! 25 minutes into the drive I said "Wow, 6+ weeks ago I would have had 5 by now!" LOL. I learned a lot of new ideas for my stamping business and today I made a gift for my family. I LOVE weekends like this.
flmgodog
I rewarded myself with an Ipod, hoping it will further motivate me to get on the treadmill at o'dark thirty in the morning. It's tough for me to exercise right now as sometimes I work straight through until 12 or 1 in the morning and then get up day my daughter to daycare and do it all over again.
Kim
I like to give myself software or books for my kindle. This week it was the upgrade to iWork and iLife.
Scott
I took my camera and went out for a nice long nature hike along the Mississippi river. This is a reward for me in a few ways. It allows me to get some quiet time, and with little ones at home this is nice sometimes (although I would LOVE it if they want to come with). It also allows me to play with my camera, and I almost always see some cool stuff.
Joanie
My reward was going shopping and getting a new outfit :)
Rachel
My non-food reward would be allowing myself to be lazy this weekend,
except for a few necessary chores and exercise. I would have worked
this weekend, but I got everything done ahead of time to make it
possible for me to relax. And it feels great.
Jenny
My non food reward was taking a bath. That may sound silly but I cannot even tell you the last time that I took the time to relax and take a bath. I usually just 'have no time' and hop in the shower. It was amazing! The day I took the bath I had gone 4 miles on the cross trainer then had to shovel 12+ inches of snow from around my car! Great job everyone!
Cara
Rewarded myself with a new coat & pair of jeans. I was going to buy the movie Fireproof, but it was sold out.
Gina
I had to think long and hard to this last challenge but, finally I decided what my reward was last night. I am buying a Macromedia Flash Cs4 Classroom in a book. It has been a while since I have really done any animation and I need some brushing up. I think in the end it will be a great reward in more ways than one.
Julia
I bought myself some new shirts. I have this thing about spending money on myself, especially now, when money is so tight. Every once in a while, when I have an extra $10 or $20, I make a game of it and scour the clearance racks at Target to see how much I can get for my money. Saturday, I found a black shirt for $2.48, a green one for $4.58 and a cute argyle sweater vest for $4.89. They're a size smaller than I used to wear and they fit! Double bonus. :D
Gaelyne
For my reward, I bought myself a Bissel 'Flip-It' dry floor cleaner (I have lots of tile and hard floors). You use it in one way for vacuuming and then flip it around and it mops and dries. It arrived on the day the temps broke records - it was the hottest day in 70 years! So, I didn't get to play with it until the other night when the temp came down. There I was at 11pm cleaning the kitchen floor. Works great, and because it holds water and detergent, it's also a good arm work out - just enough to be noticeable but not so much that it hurts to use. WIN!
Jill
Last Sunday after our chat, I went shopping. I love clothes, clothes love me, I am a clothes horse (gee, I sound like I'm in a 12 step program for shopaholics - wait, maybe I should be!) LOL
However, I can find sales like you won't believe. Coldwater Creek was having a 75% off sale - I got a jacket originally for $89.99 for $17.98 - well, they had lace tanks (my signature item), buy one get one 1/2 off, so I got two (I should have bought at least three - drat)....
And then I just moseyed into Clarks just to see how those Privos would fit (gotta keep my fat teacher feet from ailing) - and low, and behold - both the brown and the black fit wonderfully, and they were buy one, get one half off. So I came home last Sunday with a new jacket, two tanks, two new pairs of shoes. That reward set me back just a little bit, but it was worth it! :-)
I think I'm going to set my reward as an hour by myself at Borders, Barnes & Noble, Starbucks etc... reading. I don't want to buy myself anything as a reward all the time - that will just replace the food high. Besides, when I'm nice and skinny - I'll just have to get another new wardrobe anyway (my OLD skinny clothes are 10 years old - and a little out of style).
Raquel
i was going to give myself an hour of me time but that didn't happen; i did go to dressbarn and bought a new suit during their suit sale last week...

The Challenge Question for Week #1 was: What is the worst food in your pantry? And why?
Landileigh
The worst food in my pantry is pasta. I can eat bowls and bowls of the stuff. It is easy and quick to make. I love huge bowls of the stuff with butter on it.
George
Chex Mix. I love to watch movies and snack and snack and snack and the thing about this stuff is that I have to do nothing but pull it out and eat. Not like Popcorn that I can at least be too lazy to Zap. But Chex Mix, forget it!
Jaimie
worst food in cupboard is cheez-it's... They are not good for any of us but they are lurking in the cupboard? why? because even against my better judgement I let the kids and hubby guilt me into buying the box at costco...then I say I am only going to eat 1 serving size and always end up eating too many.....
Herlinda
Worst food in my pantry is cheetos....so, easy to grab and eat away and before I know it there is nothing left. love cheetos but so dangerously delicious.....
Erin
I've done a thorough search of my pantry and realized that it's me who is the bad thing in there. I tend to keep healthy foods in my home. I've been Type1 for over 36 years and I have two young kids so I don't keep "bad" foods. My problem is that I overindulge! I know portion control. I know that a cup is "about" the size of my fist, a tablespoon is "about" the size of my thumb... etc... etc..., but I realized this week that it's amazing how my portions look more like body parts from the HULK! I've now pulled out my measuring cups and spoons and I'm using them!
Flmgodog
Kim
The mini bags of chips that I get for my kids lunches. Sometimes they cry out my name in the middle of the night and tell me how lonely they are, not the kids, the chips.
Scott
Doritos. They are too easy to eat right out of the bag, and I just go way overboard with them almost all the time. Plus the kiddos get pissed when I eat “their” chips. Ug. We’d all be better off without them in the house! Second up is salted in the shell peanuts. Again, moderation is impossible with those little buggers.
Joanie
Rachel
The worst food isn't what's in my pantry (or refrigerator or freezer) - we do a good job at keeping that stuff to a minimum around here. It's the crap people bring to share at work. Fresh baked goods, donuts, etc.
Jenny
My worst food is Cheeze-it Party Mix. Oh my GOD that stuff is good. I always pour out a serving in a bowl because I will eat wayy to much, but I usually end up going back and getting another serving! I won't be buying it this grocery trip. :(
Cara
Round Butter Crackers (a.k.a. Ritz knock-offs). I know they are bad for me, but I LOVE them. I eat them way too often. They are so full of fat.
Gina
The worst food in my cabinet right now are my 100 calorie packs. They have doritos, cheetos and sunchips. The reason they are the worst is because even though they are 100 calories I eat like three bags of them at a time so it pretty much defeats the purpose of only having 100 calories.
Julia
My weaknesses are many. Chocolate, but I somehow seem to be able to ration that, probably because I buy reeeeeeealllllllly expensive chocolate and eating it all in one go is too extravagant. My biggest weakness is bread, in all its many, lovely forms. Garlic bread, toast, bagels slathered with cream cheese and lox, hell, just a nice loaf of French bread can make me hum with pleasure. Pita bread, toasted or with hummus. The list is endless. I reallyreallyreally like bread.
Gaelyne
The worst food in my pantry is currently a lovely double layered tin of Danish Butter cookies I received from our neighbours for Christmas. The first layer is totally gone (disappeared during the Holidays). The rest are for those rare times when we have guests visiting who are having a cup of tea or coffee. I really like these cookies, and if I'm ever desperate I know they'd disappear in a flash. But it's also good for me to have something I can look at say 'I'm better than you' and leave alone. It's empowering, and it stops me from wanting to go out and buy stupid stuff. I know it's there, but that doesn't mean I have to devour them.
Jill
The worst food that's in my pantry...is probably white rice and instant mashed potatoes. They're bad for me because they instantly raise my BS, and of course, they are comfort foods, and I love them. Also, I have many years old (don't ask me why I keep crap like that for so long in my pantry - it's a disease, I think) chocolate almond bark from when I made TONS O' cookies/candies for Christmas every year.
Raquel
Worst food in the pantry....Aunt Jemima Buttermilk Pancake Mix! Usually I eat whole wheat pancakes if at all but there are times when I crave light fluffy buttery buttermilk pancakes drenched in maple syrup (though I keep it sugar free) and I succumb...sighhhh...

So I talked about starting a “Biggest Loser” D-Style challenge for myself in my last post. In response, I had two of my d-friends ask if they could join in also. I thought to myself, what a great idea! Let’s open this up to the Diabetes Online Community and see who else might want to join in!
Now let me start this out, this IS NOT a diet. We’re all adults here, we’ve probably been on tons of diets. This is not an exercise plan. I’m not a doctor or a trainer. This is a support group. Here to encourage and push and guide. We all know what we need to do. We’ve been on Weight Watchers, Jenny Craig, SlimFast, a thousand diets. But what we lack is motivation and support. THAT IS WHAT THIS IS!
The Biggest Loser - “D” Style is a way to see your progress in black and white. To hold yourself accountable by having it published. No yelling, no “oh you’ve been bad”, just encouragement! No prizes, i think losing weight and getting healthy is prize in itself. We each plan on doing our own diets and starting our own exercise plans. I’m going to be replacing meals with Glucerna (easily digestible for my gastro) and using my Wii Fit and walking.
So if this sounds like something you’d like to be a part of (we will have cool Biggest Loser graphics for your blog!), then just send me an email with your height/weight/age and a front facing face shot of you to landileigh2 at gmail dot com, and we’ll add you in! Hope we have lots more participants!
